We review the top new Denver A-List categories that for the 2013 contest

Shrewd observers may have already picked up the clues, but this year's Denver A-List includes a number of new categories. After last year's contest, we sought out suggestions from voters and local business owners. After collecting as many recommendations as possible, the Denver A-List team narrowed the list down to include as many local hot spots as possible. With voting underway, we take a look at just a handful of the new categories that are already getting plenty of love from Denver area voters.


1. Best FroYo

Who doesn't love a frozen treat? In recent years, the frozen yogurt craze has seemingly taken over the dessert scene like an avalance bringing tasty topping, unique flavors and various gimmicks along the way. But what separates the best from the rest? The tasty toppings or flavor options? Or is it the novelty of self-service? Getting to the bottom of this froyo frenzy will be a challenge worth undertaking.


2. Best CrossFit

CrossFit is the workout trend taking the nation by storm. Combining indoor and outdoor activities in a group setting, CrossFit offers a unique alternative to the traditional gym experience. With an emphasis on strength and agility training, CrossFit is sure to give you a workout unlike any you've had before. So whether you are a seasoned athlete looking to bring your workout to the next level or just looking to shed a few pounds, CrossFit may be for you.


3. Best Local Brewery

When it comes to beer, the line between passion and obsession is a fine one. Between hearty porters, hoppy ales, and refreshing lagers, local breweries are raising the bar for beer around town. However the votes play out, with so many new and exciting local breweries, it's a great time to be a beer lover!


4. Best Donuts

Do you dunk? While it's not exactly the breakfast of champions, there's something irresistable about a freshly made donut (or is it doughnut?). You may pick up an old fashioned on your way to work in the morning or enjoy a jelly-filled around the water cooler at the office. From the classic glazed or chocolate frosted donut to exotic flavors, you'll find no shortage of local shops to enjoy a donut at any time of day.


5. Best Veterinarians

For many, our dogs, cats and other furry creatures are more than just pets, they are extensions of our families. We want them to receive the same top-notch medical care that we do. Local festivals provide great entertainment for all ages. Whether the draw is music, food, drink or something else entirely voters will choose the festival they return to year after year for good times and great memories.


7. Best Hot Dog

The hot dog is one of those uniquely American indulgences. The debate will rage on between steamed versus grilled and ketchup plus mustard or fully loaded, but in the end it's all about personal preferences. Whether you are a classic ballpark dog person or a frankfurter with a twist afficionado, you'll find plenty of places to induldge your hot dog cravings.
